Haydn’s The Hen Symphony

Einojuhani Rautavaara: Fiddlers for String Orchestra

Domenico Cimarosa: Concerto for Two Flutes and Orchestra

Antonín Dvořák: Romance for Violin and Orchestra

Joseph Haydn: Symphony No. 83, The Hen

Led by SPCO Musicians

Julia Bogorad-Kogan, flute

Alicia McQuerrey, flute

Eunice Kim, violin

Fans of more traditional Classical music will delight in this airy program that highlights music from the 18th century. SPCO flutists Julia Bogorad-Kogan and Alicia McQuerrey team up for a spritely double concerto that will keep you on the edge of your seat with its momentum — a similar feel to the titular symphony by Joseph Haydn whose theme earned its nickname from the uneven gait of a hen. In addition to the breathy woodwinds, you'll also hear from strings, with a soulful solo by violinist Eunice Kim and a more contemporary work for string orchestra rooted in the fiddling traditions of the composer's native Finland.
